Bevk square

A substitute main square

On the other side of the Shopping street promenade, there was once a street and a car park. At the beginning of the 1970s, the Meblo furniture factory showroom was built next to it (Bevkov trg 6), followed by the Nova Gorica Cultural Centre (Bevkov trg 4). Due to the popularity of the new centre and the large number of people it attracted, the area began to be closed to traffic from the early 1980s. This process continued over the following decades, and in 2014, Bevkov trg acquired its present form as the town's central square.

To the west of the square are two districts that still retain the original town's functional division. To the north is the health district, and to the south is the school district, where more than 5,000 children and young people attend primary and secondary schools (including grammar, economics, electrical engineering, and woodworking schools) every day.
