Tomaž Vuga
Architect Tomaž Vuga, born in 1939 in Solkan, where he still lives, graduated from the Nova Gorica secondary school and studied architecture at the Faculty of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy of the University of Ljubljana, where he graduated in 1963 under Professor Edo Mihevc.
In 1972, under his leadership, the Institute merged with two related organisations—the Geodetic Bureau and the Projekt Bureau—into Projekt Nova Gorica, which he directed until 1974. From 1974 to 1982, he headed its urban planning sector.
During this period, which marked the city’s greatest expansion, he designed the key elements of Nova Gorica’s urban development: the road network and numerous zoning plans, including residential areas in Solkan, Vetrišče and Ledine (Cankar housing estate), as well as developments along Erjavčeva Street, Podmark and V mlinu in Šempeter pri Gorici, the international border crossing at Vrtojba, and the industrial zones of Iskra and Cimos in Šempeter pri Gorici.
As an architect, Tomaž Vuga is the author of numerous designs for residential houses, public buildings, as well as educational and social facilities.
