Raša

Founded in 1937, Rasha (Arsia in Italian) was built in just 547 days. The town was planned for 2000 inhabitants and the coal mine employed 7000 miners. The town's church of St Barbara - patron saint of miners - is shaped like an inverted mine carriage and the bell tower is in the shape of a miner's lamp. The coal mine continued to operate after the annexation of the territory to Yugoslavia until 1966. Today the population is 2 800. The Raša coal mine was opened to tourists in 2023.
