Theatre building

The square in front of the town hall only came into being with the construction of the imposing theatre building in 1994, which also confined it to the eastern side. Designed by architect Vojteh Ravnikar, this impressive postmodernist building is his most important work. It houses the Slovenian National Theatre Nova Gorica. The large hall has 371 seats, and a smaller hall with 107 seats was added later. In 2025, the outdoor amphitheatre, planned from the outset, was finally completed.

The theatre is very popular in Nova Gorica and is an important venue for the town’s cultural life. The basement rooms house the Nova Gorica Town Gallery, the central art venue in the Goriška region. It operates within the Nova Gorica Cultural Centre.
