The bank – an overlooked gem

Probably the most overlooked yet striking building in the town is the former Ljubljanska Bank from 1975, designed by architect Bogdan Mikuž (1934–2015). Resembling a large bunker, the building was conceived as a metaphor for the security of bank investments.

In the 1990s, the former Ljubljanska banka branch merged with Komercialna banka Maribor to form Nova KBM, which in 2023 became part of OTP Bank. Following “business optimisation,” the bank no longer required the entire premises. At the end of 2024, new programmes moved into the building, which was renamed Nova.

The ground-floor pavilion, where customers are served, was renovated decades ago and still continues to function as a bank branch.
