Delpin Street – the First Promenade in Town
Today's Delpin Street, formerly known as Road 5, played a significant role in the town's development as the site of the first real promenade, although it was planned only as a temporary location.
Between 1959 and 1961, Teodor Lojk (1913–2006) designed three elongated, single-storey buildings known as “communal blocks.” To make the most of the space, the shops were designed to function as display windows too.
The buildings housed the town’s first café and pastry shop (which later also became a pizzeria), as well as a bakery, butcher’s, supermarket, fruit and vegetable shop, hairdresser’s, and the town market.
