Lokve (956 m.) is a village about half an hour's drive from Nova Gorica. It gained popularity in the 1970s, when the municipality developed it into a small ski resort and constructed the necessary infrastructure. In recent decades, snowfall has been too scarce to justify maintaining the resort. After years of neglect, the village has recently been revitalised.
In Lokve, you can rent e-bikes and stop at one of three restaurants: Hotel Winkler, Gostilna Lokve, and Kmečki turizem Pr' Ukovih. There are also numerous overnight options. The annual Wood & Stone Lokve sculpture colonies bring the area to life, and you can also visit the small museum of cooperage by prior arrangement. This craft once provided locals with additional income alongside forestry.
