Smuggling Museum

The border has always been a place of restrictions and controls; some activities were permitted, while others were forbidden. At the former police station in the Pristava border crossing, the Goriški muzej has created an exhibition dedicated to one of the most widespread border practices: smuggling. It presents the ways locals on both sides of the border transported goods that could not be legally imported or exported. After all, even Slovenia's national hero Martin Krpan was a smuggler of salt – and all he ever asked of the emperor was permission to sell it legally.
