Monument to the Saboteurs
Among the group of abstract sculptural monuments in the city is also the Monument to the Saboteurs by Negovan Nemec (1985), in which the sculptor—following the dominant trends in contemporary visual art—radically broke with traditional realist sculpture in favour of abstraction. The monument is just one of many important memorials to the National Liberation Struggle created by Nemec, who, as a successor to the tradition of monumental sculpture of his professor Boris Kalin, left a distinctive cultural mark on the Goriška region.
