Monument Figure in a Circle

Sculptures in the City series – a collaboration between HIT and the Ministry of Culture

Within the Sculptures in the City project—established through a collaboration between the company HIT (as financier), the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia and the Municipality of Nova Gorica, with the aim of enriching the urban space with five significant sculptural works—the first installation was the sculpture Figure in a Circle by Zmago Posega, placed in 1998 in front of the HIT business building.

This imposing stone sculpture is based on a circular form—an “absolute form” from which everything emerges and to which everything returns, a symbol of perfection and infinity. Into this complete form, the artist introduced fragments of human backs that ripple across the stone surface, creating a distinctly tactile and sensory experience for the viewer.

The work is characterised by a simple, reduced sculptural language and an aesthetic transformation of form, in which only a faint allusion to reality remains.
