EPIC and the exhibition City on the border

European platform for interpretation of 20th century

As European Capitals of Culture (ECoC) 2025, Nova Gorica and Gorizia have made Europe Square the main venue. Nova Gorica invited its twin city to join the candidacy to tell a shared cross-border story under the slogan "Go Borderless."

The entire area has been redesigned by the Sadar+Vuga architectural office, which also renovated the station, created the new underpass, and transformed the former railway warehouses into EPIC, the central museum venue of ECoC 2025. EPIC is conceived as a permanent interpretive centre with a café and conference hall. Its main exhibition, created in collaboration with experts from both sides of the border, employs multi-layered perspectives to explore the post-war division of the border, migration, and everyday life, while also presenting the stories and memories of Goriška's inhabitants during the key events of the 20th century.
